Gå inn i det underjordiske eventyrlandet under et enormt hode som spirer en foss fra munnen, som i vintermånedene er fullstendig frossen! Krystallene som vises skinner og glitrer i en perfekt regnbue av farger, og noen av de mest imponerende og prangende gjenstandene og smykkene kan beundres. En butikk på stedet lar besøkende kjøpe noen av disse vakre stykkene som en flott suvenir. Dette er et flott attraksjon for både barn og voksne, spesielt i dårlig vær.
  • Hallstatt – Ansett for å være den eldste landsbyen i Østerrike, er Hallstatt sannsynligvis den typiske alpelandsbyen. Plassert langs Hallstättersee og omgitt av Dachstein-fjellene, er dette et landlig landsbyen som tatt ut fra et postkort. Å ankomme Hallstatt med tog er trolig den mest dramatiske måten å komme seg hit på, siden jernbanestasjonen ligger på motsatt side av innsjøen, og man må ta ferge ved avstigning. Et besøk til Salzwelten er verdt et besøk for å forstå hvordan salt ble utvunnet i gamle dager, da områdets rikdom vokste kun ut fra saltindustrien, med dype saltgruver i nærheten.
  • Retz – Østerrike er kanskje ikke mest kjent internasjonalt som et vinproduserende land, men europeere har lenge elsket østerrikske viner. En by som har vokst gjennom vinhandelen er Retz. Byen ligger i Weinviertel, og er kjent for sine underjordiske kjellertunneler, som er estimert til 22 kilometer i lengde og utgjør et av de største kjellernettverkene i Europa. Byen er også kjent for sitt pittoreske markedstorg og rådhus.
  • Eisriesenwelten – Hvis man bare skal besøk en av de naturlige attraksjonene i Østerrike, bør det være Eisriesenwelten i Werfen. 48 kilometer med labyrintlignende underjordiske isgrotter er rett og slett imponerende. Det regnes for å være et av de største ishulekompleksene i verden, og selv i de varme sommermånedene kan det være kaldt inne i den underjordiske hulen. Hvordan er været? -Østerrike drar nytte av et temperert sentraleuropeisk klima med fire forskjellige årstider. Klimaet i Østerrike er i stor grad kontinentalt med den østlige grensen til landet som strekker seg inn i den pannoniske klimasonen. Det er typisk for sentraleuropa å ha kalde vintre; går ned til minus 20°C om natten og varme og solrike somre; nå opp til 35°C noen dager i august. Den større regionen av Østerrike ligger i den kjølige og mer tempererte klimasonen der fuktige vestlige vinder råder. Med over halvparten av landet dominert av Alpene, er det alpine klimaet den viktigste temperaturen i hele landet. I øst, på den pannoniske sletten og langs Donaudalen viser det typiske været kontinentale karakteristikker med mindre nedbør enn de alpine områdene. Selv om Østerrike er kaldt om vinteren, kan områdene rundt Alpene fortsatt nå relativt varme temperaturer opp til 20°C til 27°C om sommeren.

Beste tiden å besøke Østerrike: De beste tidene å besøke Wien og de andre større byene i Østerrike er sen vår og tidlig høst, spesielt månedene mai, juni og september.

Midt på sommeren (juli-august) er tordenværet mer intense, og det kan være veldig varmt i lave høyder. I byer som ligger i kuperte områder, som Salzburg, Innsbruck, regner det mer enn i Wien, som til gjengjeld kan være varmt og fuktig. På den annen side, i denne perioden er temperaturene i høyfjellet mer behagelige.

  • Taxi – Sjåfører vil forvente omtrent 10 % tips. Vanligvis kan du bare runde opp for å møte dette.

  • Den best bevarte steinaldermannen i verden ble funnet i Oetz-dalen i Tyrol. Han heter "Oetzi" og døde for rundt 5300 år siden.
  • Østerrike har 13 fjelltopper med en høyde på 3000 meter og 34 fjelltopper som overstiger 2000 meter.
  • De østerrikske alpene dekker 62% av landets totale landareal.

Festivaler:

  • Schubertiade (april og oktober) – Denne festivalen er dedikert til musikken til Franz Schubert og regnes for å være den viktigste Schubert-musikkfestivalen i verden. Feiringen går tilbake til 1976 og finner sted hvert år i Hohenems i april og oktober. En rekke forestillinger inkludert orkesterkonserter, pianokonserter og kammerkonserter skal nytes. Festivalen er stolt av å holde arenaene sine intime og små, noe som øker populariteten.
  • Glatt & Verkehrt Festival (juni - juli) Løst oversatt betyr festivalnavnet «rett og bakover». Glatt ble etablert i 1997 og viser frem internasjonale artister som bruker humor og vidd i musikken sin. Festivalen arrangeres i byen Krems, og holder vanligvis 15 konserter i løpet av en måneds periode mellom juni og juli. Mange av konsertene og forestillingene er gratis.

Festivalen inkluderer både musikalske og dramatiske forestillinger, som holdes i hele barokkbyen Salzburg. There are gentle plateau trails, peaceful valley runs and more challenging routes on the wooded hillsides offering stunning valley views. There's clear signposting and an excellent free trail map for perfect self guided exploration, along with superb downhill skiing in Seefeld, just 15 minutes away. If you fancy a change from cross-country skiing, there are also horse-drawn sleigh rides, tobogganing, ice skating and snowshoeing available locally.
